The SmartTOP add-on kit for Mercedes-Benz SL R230 made and offered by Mods4cars allows owners to use the console switch while driving at slow speeds of up to 60 km/h (~38mph). All that is needed is a quick touch to start full automatic top operation. The top can also be controlled with simple, intuitive commands from the original remote key fob.

The SmartTOP module for SL R230 now received a firmware update adding another feature: Keyless-Go operation on cars equipped with the factory start/stop button feature. The add-on SmartTOP Convertible Top Controllers offered by aftermarket automotive electronics specialist Mods4cars are meant to simplify operation of the top. They make it possible for owners of Mercedes-Benz E-Class and CLK convertibles to use the center console top switch while the car is moving at slow speeds. All that is needed is a quick tap on the switch to trigger full automatic “one-touch” operation. It is neither necessary to stop and pull over, nor does the switch have to be held down for the duration of the operation.

Additionally, the SmartTOP module allows top operation from the original key fob remote with one-touch convenience. After using a quick button combination on the key fob, the top opens or closes fully automatically. No changes are necessary to the original key fob transmitters or receiver system.

Next to these two main features the SmartTOP add-on kits for E-Class and CLK convertibles offer a host of bonus features: The windows can be opened or closed from the remote and independently from the top. All windows can be opened or closed one-touch style from the console switch. The hazard flashers can be activated during remote top operation and it is possible to activate a short audible confirmation sound when locking and unlocking the car (CLK only). On both models top and window operation from the remote is possible up to the full RF range of the remote. All features are individually programmable and adjustable to taste. The aftermarket SmartTOP module offered by Mods4cars for Mercedes-Benz SLK R172 makes it possible to open or close the hard top while driving at speeds of up to 60 km/h (~38 mph). Thanks to the one-touch operation, a quick touch is sufficient to start the operation. The top can also be controlled from the original factory remote, using long range RF signals and with full automatic one-touch mode.

Just recently aftermarket electronics specialist Mods4cars added another feature to the module: The side mirrors (factory option for motorized mirrors is required) can now be folded in or out automatically. Two different modes of operation are selectable. They can either be folded in by using a quick button sequence on the remote or they always automatically fold in when the car is locked. Upon unlocking and opening the driver’s door they automatically fold back out.

The outfit Mods4cars has completely redesigned the appearance of their signature product, the SmartTOP Convertible Top Controller. Effective immediately all shipped kits for Mercedes-Benz SLK and SL now sport the exclusive, custom designed slim-line enclosure. Thanks to its smaller size the module can be installed in even tighter spaces in the car. Due to less plastic and no screws being used, the new design is also more eco-friendly.

With the SmartTOP add-on kit installed, owners of the SLK and SL class convertibles can open or close the top fully automatically from the factory remote key fob. A quick push button combination is all that is needed to start the operation. No changes need to be made to the key fobs. From the center console switch the top can be lowered or raised with one-touch convenience and while the car is moving at slow speeds. It is no longer necessary to hold down the switch. This is a real time saver.

All models dramatically increase the range of the remote operation by using RF instead of IR signals and make it possible to activate the top from a long distance. All features are individually programmable and each module comes with a main switch to temporarily disable the entire product while retaining all user configurable settings.
