SmartTOP add-on Convertible Top Controller for Audi and Volkswagen gets new design

Aftermarket automotive electronics specialist Mods4cars completely redesigned the look and feel of their SmartTOP Convertible Top Controller for Audi and VW. They now come in a custom designed product enclosure manufactured exclusively for Mods4cars. Effective immediately, the modules for Audi A3 and A4 Convertibles as well as Audi TT Roadster and Volkswagen Golf VI Convertible ship with the new module enclosure. The smaller, slimmer shape of the module makes it easier to install it in tighter spaces in the car. Two built in LEDs show the status of the module and aid during installation.

The SmartTOP Convertible Top Controller for Audi and VW make using the top simpler and more comfortable. The retrofit kit made and offered by Mods4cars allows drivers to open and close the top while driving at slow speeds of up to 60 km/h (~38 mph). All that is needed is a quick, single touch of the switch to start full automatic operation. It is no longer necessary to hold it down for the entire time of the operation.

Additionally the top can be controlled from afar by using the original factory key fob remote. A key combination sets the top in motion. On hot days the top can be lowered while still approaching the car and at the first sign of rainfall the top can be closed quickly without the need to walk to the car.

Apart from these two main features all SmartTOP modules offer a host of bonus features, all of which are user configurable. The windows can be controlled separately from the top by remote. On the Audi A3 and A4 all windows can be closed automatically with the switch in the driver’s door. VW Golf VI drivers can reverse the direction of the top switch to make it more intuitive. An extended mode can be activated which allows the engine to be started or stopped while the top continues to open or close. The entire module can be deactivated temporarily if needed, while retaining all other user settings.

This custom designed wire adapter connects the module safely and securely to the vehicle electronics. The SmartTOP add-on Convertible Top Controller for the new Audi A3 Cabriolet is now available. This marks the fifth new product release by Mods4cars this year. “We are happy to be able to offer our SmartTOP kit so soon after the Audi A3 Cabriolet got introduced.” says PR-Manager Sven Tornow. The module can be installed quickly and offers some neat, intelligent features that make daily life with the convertible more enjoyable and fun.

The SmartTOP brings convenient one-touch operation to the console top switch. It is no longer necessary to hold the switch for the entire duration of the operation. A quick tap is enough to set the top in motion and fully automatically open or close it. SmartTOP customers get both hands back on the steering wheel immediately.

Additionally it is possible to control the convertible top and the windows from the original key fob remote while the car is parked. A quick key combination starts a full automatic top operation. “The top can already be opened while still walking up to the car. And of course it is possible to quickly close the top from afar at the first sign of impending rainfall.” Sven Tornow continues. Neither the keys nor the receiver system needs to be modified.

Like every other SmartTOP product, this one for the Audi A3 Cabriolet comes with some bonus features. The windows can be controlled separately from the top by remote. The top can be controlled from the door handle on cars equipped with the keyless entry system. It is possible to reverse the direction of the console switch if desired. An extended mode can be activated which allows turning the engine on or off while the top continues moving. All functions can be programmed individually according to taste. The entire module can be deactivated temporarily while retaining all user settings.

The kit comes with a custom designed Plug-and-Play wiring adapter for extremely simple and foolproof installation. The connection between the SmartTOP module and the vehicle electronics is made by merely connecting a couple of plugs. No wires need to be cut, soldered or spliced, leaving the car in absolute original condition after removal of the kit. The SmartTOP module also has a standard USB port built in for quick firmware updates and configuration of the settings via PC or Mac. Updates and support software are available free of charge online.
