The add-on SmartTOP Convertible Top Controllers offered by aftermarket automotive electronics specialist Mods4cars are meant to simplify operation of the top. They make it possible for owners of Mercedes-Benz E-Class and CLK convertibles to use the center console top switch while the car is moving at slow speeds. All that is needed is a quick tap on the switch to trigger full automatic “one-touch” operation. It is neither necessary to stop and pull over, nor does the switch have to be held down for the duration of the operation.

Additionally, the SmartTOP module allows top operation from the original key fob remote with one-touch convenience. After using a quick button combination on the key fob, the top opens or closes fully automatically. No changes are necessary to the original key fob transmitters or receiver system.

Next to these two main features the SmartTOP add-on kits for E-Class and CLK convertibles offer a host of bonus features: The windows can be opened or closed from the remote and independently from the top. All windows can be opened or closed one-touch style from the console switch. The hazard flashers can be activated during remote top operation and it is possible to activate a short audible confirmation sound when locking and unlocking the car (CLK only). On both models top and window operation from the remote is possible up to the full RF range of the remote. All features are individually programmable and adjustable to taste. An extended mode even allows starting or stopping the engine during an ongoing top operation. The entire module can be temporarily disabled while retaining all user configurable settings.

Recently the enclosure of the intelligent top opener was completely redesigned. Effective immediately all SmartTOP kits for Mercedes-Benz E-Class and CLK Convertibles come equipped with the new enclosure.

The new product enclosure was designed and developed exclusively by Mods4cars for the use case at hand. It is slimmer and more streamlined and can be installed in tighter spots in the car. Use of less plastic and omission of screws also make it a better choice for the environment. Two LEDs now offer an unparalleled level of status and diagnostics information during installation. To make installation extremely simple, the SmartTOP kits also come with plug-and-play wiring adapters which simply connect the module to the vehicle electronics. User programmable settings can be adjusted via clear text in-dash menu or via USB setup and support software available for Windows and Mac.
