Reading some forum posts online, it seems that some BMW modules had been causing battery drain, where you appear to have recommended supplying an direct 12v battery supply as a cure. Is this still required?

Answer:

No, the power supply and battery issues were resolved completely. Direct 12V battery supply is no longer needed.
