Audi A4: Radio turns on briefly or lights flash when giving remote commands

Problem:
When operating the top with the remote the radio turns on temporarily and/or loses the last power state (stays off next time the ignition is turned on). On some models with daytime driving lights, these lights might flash for a fraction of a second.

Cause:
The smartTOP module has to use a couple of command sequences to make the top work while the car is parked. This type of operation was never intended by the manufacturer, so we had to basically make part of the circuitry in the car behave as if the ignition is switched on. This only happens for a brief moment and causes the radio to either flicker or turn on for a couple of seconds.

Solution:
Unfortunately there is no real solution to this. One way of reducing the effect is to only operate the roof remotely with all doors closed.
