This module comes with our USB Field Upgrade and Configuration Port! We recommend connecting it to a computer BEFORE YOU INSTALL and using our support app "m4cconnect" to do a quick firmware update check. M4cconnect as well as all other information regarding USB update and configuration can be found at www.mods4cars.com/usb. You can even configure and activate your favorite module functions and settings on screen before the module is installed in the car! It is a good idea to permanently install the USB cable with the module in the car, leaving the computer plug in an easily accessible spot for later use with a Wifi/3G/4G connected laptop.
Detailed function description (* = Factory setting)
Main Switch - Workshop/Diagnose Mode ( OFF / *LHD / RHD ) ***RHD Setting: Firmware v3.3 or newer*** - ALL MODEL YEARS
When disabled, the module becomes completely inactive and behaves as if it was not installed. This is useful if you need to take the car to the dealer or garage for inspection or repairs.
Important: This function acts like a master switch, setting "OFF" disables the whole module. The individual settings and preferences for the functions below stay unchanged. This way the module can easily be deactivated and reactivated with only two "clicks".
RHD setting is the same as LHD (activates module) but for RHD cars (UK, Australia, etc.). Select RHD if you want to use the mirror Park Assist feature on RHD cars.

Roof Control ( *MANUAL / ONETOUCH / EXTENDED[!] ) - ALL MODEL YEARS
Holding down the button in either direction will operate the top as long as the button is held.
In one touch mode the operation is further enhanced as follows:
    • A short tap on "OPEN" will open the top completely and leave all windows down.

    • Two short taps on "OPEN" will open the top completely and then raise the windows up.

    • A short tap on "CLOSE" will close the top completely and raise all windows up.

    • Two short taps on "CLOSE" will close the top completely and leave all windows down.

    • A short tap on "CLOSE" with the roof already closed will automatically close the sunroof and all windows.

    • Tap in the opposite direction at any time for emergency stop.
When set to EXTENDED mode, it is possible to turn the ignition off and pull the key out, while the top operation continues.
Please use with extra caution to avoid injury by moving top parts!

    Max Speed ( *0/11/22/33/44 kmh - 7/14/21/28 mph) - ALL MODEL YEARS
Setting the max allowed speed for top operation in steps of 11km/h (~7mph). Setting 0 only allows roof operation while halted, maximum programmable speed is 44km/h (~28mph).

Remote Control ( *OFF / ON / EXTENDED[!] ) - ALL MODEL YEARS
This function allows roof operation with the original remote fob by holding down the "OPEN" or "CLOSE" button on the remote. Tap the button briefly to just unlock or lock the car, hold it down for about 5 sec. to activate the top. Once started, the top will complete the cycle automatically. Tapping any button on the remote will interrupt the operation immediately.
When set to EXTENDED mode, it is possible to turn the ignition on and start the engine, while the top operation continues.
Please use with extra caution to avoid injury by moving top parts!

Full overview of all modes of remote operation (turn signals only up to MY 2009):
    • Hold "OPEN" until all turnsignals turn on (or 2 sec), then let go: All windows roll down.
    • Tap "OPEN" twice quickly: Sunroof opens by itself.
    • Hold "OPEN" until turnsignals turn on and back off (or 5-6 sec): Roof opens automatically.
    • Hold "OPEN" until turnsignals turn on and back off (or 5-6 sec), then let go and tap "OPEN" again quickly: Roof opens automatically, after which all windows roll up.
    • Hold "CLOSE" until all turnsignals turn on (or 2 sec), then let go: All windows roll up.
    • Hold "CLOSE" until turnsignals turn on and back off (or 5-6 sec): Roof and windows close automatically.
NEW in Firmware v3.52: To avoid problems with the radio or alarm, the top can now be closed by holding down the "OPEN" button on the remote until the top starts closing. The doors are automatically locked after the top finishes closing.
NEW in Firmware v3.53: Open the top with 3x click on remote OPEN button and close the top with either 3x click on OPEN or on CLOSE.

During top, sunroof or window operation the hazard lights (turnsignals) signal the current state of operation:
Regular blinks for convertible top, slow blinks for sunroof and window operation, 5x fast blinks for convertible top error (Trunk open, luggage divider not in correct position or PDC detected an obstacle).

Remote PDC ( *OFF / LAST ONCE / LAST UNTIL IGN / REALTIME ) - UP TO MY 2007 ONLY
This setting determines the behavior of the PDC sensors (if installed). If set to "OFF", PDC sensors are not checked at all, remote roof operation is permanently enabled. In "LAST ONCE" and "LAST UNTIL IGN" mode, the module saves the last valid response of the PDC sensors when reverse gear is selected. The next remote top operation is blocked (and the error sequence flashed) if this last response determined an obstacle in the way (for example backing into a garage etc). "LAST ONCE" only blocks operation once and reactivates the top upon the second try, "LAST UNTIL IGN" needs to have the ignition turned on to erase any error condition. In "REALTIME" mode, the module tries to determine the current clearance by querying the PDC sensors right before a remote operated top cycle. Using the realtime mode causes the diagnostics memory to store a noncritical message (the PDC sensors were by factory not designed to operate without the ignition being on. However, as the only manufacturer of aftermarket roof modules we found a way to still activate them using a sophisticated command sequence).
WARNING: We cannot guarantee that the PDC sensors will always return a valid response without the engine running.
If you have a model year 2008 and newer, disable this feature as the new generation of PDC sensors used by VW work completely different and can not be queried by the module.

OPERATION OF THE TOP, SUNROOF AND WINDOWS BY REMOTE IS GENERALLY DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK! ALWAYS MAKE SURE (EVEN WITH REALTIME PDC ENABLED) THAT YOU HAVE ENOUGH CLEARANCE BEHIND THE CAR TO OPERATE THE TOP - BEFORE STARTING ANY REMOTE OPERATIONS!

LockIn ( *OFF / LOCK ONLY / LOCK + KEY OUT / LOCK + IGN OFF ) - ALL MODEL YEARS
This function has three settings and will either lock all doors once the car starts moving (LOCK ONLY) or also unlock the doors when the key is removed from the ignition lock (LOCK + KEY OUT). It can also be set to already unlock the doors in the moment the ignition is turned off (LOCK + IGN OFF).

Switch Logic ( *NORMAL / INVERTED ) - ALL MODEL YEARS
For many, the operation direction of the top and sunroof buttons is awkward. Push to open, pull to close. This function allows reversing the direction: Pull to open, push to close.

Windows Button (*NORMAL / ONE-TOUCH ) ***Firmware v3.2 or newer*** - ALL MODEL YEARS
This function allows the comfortable (one-touch) operation of all windows when using the wide driver's door "all-windows" switch. By factory this switch must be held down.

Switch Logic ( *NORMAL / INVERTED ) - ALL MODEL YEARS
For many, the operation direction of the top and sunroof buttons is awkward. Push to open, pull to close. This function allows reversing the direction: Pull to open, push to close.

Welcome Msg ( OFF / *ON ) - UP TO MY 2009 ONLY
5 seconds after turning the ignition on, the module will show a short welcome message, which can be disabled by setting this function to "OFF".

    Park Assist ( *OFF / CAL -9...+10 ) - ALL MODEL YEARS
Park assist feature for the passenger mirror. Automatically dips the mirror down to show the curb, when the mirror selector knob is set to "R" and reverse gear is selected. This greatly simplifies parallel parking. After leaving reverse gear, the mirror returns to its original condition when forward speed is detected or after 10 seconds of inactivity.
The settings -9 to +10 are used to calibrate the mirror feature as follows: Upon activating this feature for the first time, select "CAL 00" and test operation. In case the mirror points a little lower each time after returning from the dipped state, increase the CAL value and vice versa. The mirror is calibrated correctly if it returns to exactly the same spot every time after dipping down and returning back up.

Flash Hazards ( *ON / OFF ) ***Firmware v3.1 or newer*** - UP TO MY 2009 ONLY
By default the hazard lights are activated when a remote roof or windows operation is in progress. This safety feature can be disabled with by turning this function to OFF.

Horn Chirps ( *OFF / Lock Only / Lock+Unlock ) ***Firmware v3.2 or newer*** - UP TO MY 2009 ONLY
This function can be set to either honk the horn briefly when locking the vehicle or additionally honk the horn twice briefly when unlocking.

    Chirp-Duration ( *4ms ... 18ms ) - UP TO MY 2009 ONLY
Duration of chirp command. Allows fine tuning the volume level of the horn.

    SurroundLight ( *OFF / ON ) - UP TO MY 2009 ONLY
This function will turn all turnsignal lights on permanently for 30 sec., when the "OPEN" button is tapped and the car is already unlocked or when the "CLOSE" button is tapped with the car already locked. Repeating the procedure before 30 sec. are up will turn the lights off.
IMPORTANT: when using the "OPEN" button, both driver's and passenger's door have to be unlocked in order for the button tap to count. If you have the sequential unlocking enabled, the first tap will unlock only the driver's door, the second tap will unlock the passenger's door. The third tap will activate the SurroundLight feature.

Hitch ( *Normal / Ignore ) ***Firmware v3.42 or newer*** - ALL MODEL YEARS
With this function enabled, it is possible to operate the top even with a hitch connected. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

    Remote Mode ( *Hold / Tap / Both / Both+Keyless ) ***Firmware v3.55 or newer*** - ALL MODEL YEARS
This function allows setting the method of remote top operation by remote. Either hold down (>5sec) only, tap (three times unlock) only, both or additionally for 2011+ models by touching the door handle (requires keyless entry option!): The top can be opened or closed by either tapping the "lock" area three times in a row or alternatively the sequence lock, lock, unlock can be used if 3x door handle lock triggers the alarm. Additionally the windows can be raised by touching and holding the "lock" area for 3-4 seconds. If the top is closed, this will also close the sunroof.
Setting 0 (hold only) can be used if the car is set to sequential unlocking and tapping the unlock button twice in order to unlock all doors always accidentally triggers the sunroof open feature.

    Programming
This module is equipped with our unique full text setup menu (up to MY 2009) to allow easy setting of the desired options.
Programming for model years up to 2009
All programming is done by using the MFD and the center console top and sunroof buttons. Navigation is done by pulling the top button up (next function) or pushing it down (previous function) and settings are changed by pulling the sunroof button up (increase setting by one) or pushing it down (decrease setting by one).
To enter programming mode, turn ignition on and push and hold the UNLOCK switch on the driver's door for about 5 sec. until the display shows the first setup option. Now let go of the switch.
From this point on you can navigate through the options and change the settings. The new settings are active immediately. To end programming mode, either wait for 30 sec. or tap the unlock switch again.
IMPORTANT: If the programming menu doesn't show up after holding the unlock switch, you may have to push the "UP" portion of the rocker switch at the tip of the stalk on the right (onboard computer settings). On some models there is a warning message about the seat belt that will only go away when you buckle up the seat belt. Our setup menu can only be seen when there are no other "high priority" messages on the display.
Programming for model year 2010 and later
All programming is done by using the two green turn signal (indicator) arrows (1,2) and the center console top and sunroof buttons. Functions are indicated by the left arrow (1) and their settings are indicated by the right arrow (2). Navigation is done by pulling the top button up (next function) or pushing it down (previous function) and settings are changed by pulling the sunroof button up (increase setting by one) or pushing it down (decrease setting by one).
To enter programming mode, turn ignition on and push and hold the LOCK switch on the driver's door for about 5 sec. until you hear a chime signal. Now let go of the switch.
From this point on you can navigate through the options and change the settings. The new settings are active immediately. To end programming mode, either wait for 30 sec. or tap the unlock switch.
